I'm starting to think that #Piracy is a form of preservation. Hear me out.
Let's take the case of the long gone TV show, the Journey of Allen Strange. You can't stream it *anywhere* today, legally. I tried looking for DVDs once. Couldn't find anything in 2 hours.
For it's time, it was ironically a pretty progressive show. So, today, I wanted to watch it.
I found a playlist on YouTube containing episodes, but I was just astonished that there was *no* way to watch this legally.
I get it. I'm an indie creator. People don't like paying artists and art. Trust me, people would like nothing more than to make sure we don't get paid because that would be admitting that art has value, and we can't have that! I really get it, but how else was I supposed to buy this TV show and stream it?
Longer blog post coming about this, but let's take the case of #AudioDescription. There are older described VHS tapes that were never digitized. The AD tracks get lost all the time and barely appear on streaming services. If they do, they show up days or weaks after the streaming service launched this third party TV show/movie on their platform.
