I had a complexity/math researcher stay with me once when I was young 30 years ago) and he and his wife were older; and they made them live in separates cities, a 24 hour train ride apart. He would visit, and usually could not even sit down for most of the trip. But I do not know what it was like, actually doing the research, and avoiding the pitfalls that could get you jailed or killed.
