Best thing about watching recorded videos (and not live or streams) of #38C3 is being able to watch them at 2x speed :-D
Still, I think we should do a "how to present a talk" workshop. Because people reading slides makes me wait/idle even if they talk at 2x the speed.
Slides should not contain what you say¹, they should illustrate it. If you want to distribute the talk, distribute it as video + as a write-up which contains both illustrations and what was said. If you are in a pinch, just distribute slides+transcript or at least notes.
Personally, I usually try to prepare the write-up first. Which means, if I don't have time for both, I'll just skip the slides altogether, rather than skipping the write-up. But I definitely have a coherent idea of what I'm talking about and a well-held talk w/o slides is better than a badly held talk with slides plus no write-up.
¹ Weird edge-cases like investors who /demand/ slide decks in case they cannot attend and thus slide decks must be complete and since everyone does it that way don't really care about any better produced write-up you have.
