Nice link! Yes I remember the huge push back in Web 1.0 (and early 2.0) days because every homepage had one. Def. overdone. Many trends were at those times.
Ignoring that this was more of a CSS tutorial I think there's a limited legit uses for carousels. Often when i see people dedicated sites to "never use this design element" often they are overselling to swing the pendulum or they have deeper issues 😆.
