I think the film is alright. It is an illumination film, so I expect no worse than being mediocre.
I had more issues with the song selection than anything else. It felt like someone playing a playlist of a top 100 billboard of 80s songs.
The story is pretty lacking too, but then again it is Mario.
I doubt they would tackle something like the RPG series in terms of story.
