Well, I just followed the instructions at https://docs.github.com/en/pages/configuring-a-custom-domain-for-your-github-pages-site/about-custom-domains-and-github-pages#using-an-apex-domain-for-your-github-pages-site to prevent my site from being hijacked. Github says I'm good. CloudFlare says I'm not.
Time for more Chardonnay and wait to see if everything catches up.
