I am finally going through the tons of board games and toys left over from my kids and grandkids. Today, I ran across ten decks of pinochle cards.
I used to love playing.
My son was my pinochle partner, and we had a standing game with seven couples. The first Friday of every month, each couple took a turn hosting the games, including dinner.
We barely fit the card tables in our little apartment. They all loved my desserts.
My son was young, about ten, but really good at pinochle. The group we joined had been playing together forever but needed a replacement couple. At first, they hesitated to include us because we weren't a gay couple. We fit in perfectly, in the end, mostly because we loved the game, had a sense of humor, and I could cook. We all became dearest friends.
All are gone now, except me, including my son.
Those were such good Fridays and happy memories.
