I assume his motivation for supporting the effort is for the index only. In case Apple’s index ever goes away. Otherwise he doesn’t seem interested in supporting boosts or really anything else. But who knows. Minus the lack of support for Podcasting 2.0, overcast is still the best podcast app on iOS.
