IRC used nothing. Back when portals were a thing, Opera had an IRC client. There was NO difference in RAM usage. Nothing at all, even in high traffic channels. mIRC took 8MB.
Discord is using 450MB, elements needs 300MB, telegram claims 300MB, mastodon-as-web bc webpage...
If you have to use all of them at the same time you need 8GB of RAM at least.
