A 17-year international online search puzzle has been solved. The song, known as the "most mysterious song on the internet," has been identified as belonging to a German band called FEX, which was active in the 1980s. The song was discovered by a Reddit user who found a post by a former member of the band on an old music festival lineup. The story began in 2007 when a German man and his sister uploaded a digital copy of the song to the internet, which was recorded by his brother 20 years earlier from the radio on a cassette tape. Music enthusiasts, known as "lost music hunters," began searching for the song using different methods, such as analyzing the instruments used or the singer's accent. However, the initial attempts to uncover the song's details failed. In 2019, Reddit re-posted the song, sparking a wave of excitement among users, and soon it was dubbed the "most mysterious song on the internet." A dedicated forum on Reddit attracted tens of thousands of internet users, and German media outlets became interested in uncovering the song's origins. This week, a user named Marijgin412 claimed to have contacted a former member of FEX, Michael Heydrich, who revealed the song's title. The user found Heydrich through a search for the band that performed at an official radio station music festival in northern Germany in the 1980s. Heydrich confirmed in an interview with Der Spiegel that the band was "extremely surprised" by the late recognition of the song.
