Just listening to this now and something Jason said really made me think. He said that if Trump talks about Bitcoin on TV it makes our job harder for convincing people that Bitcoin is net positive. This mentality and the fact that we accept it to be true really bothers me. I see the same from my in-laws, if “Trump says X I think Y”. It is like a visceral reaction that forces you to ignore logic or common sense and shut down the possibility of there being anything that could be good coming from the other side.
The same is true from the flipside if a democrat politician says something the republicans voters take the opposing stance irrespective of how illogical it is.
I worry that we’re just playing into the simple but effective strategy of divide and conquer. If tomorrow Trump said how much he liked the internet and it was a net positive would we all immediately ditch it? How about cars? Or Music?
We have to accept that we’re all complex and can have both good and bad ideas. We have to hold out the hope that common ground still exists and we have to reject the notion that “orange man = bad” is a true statement. Maybe he would be, maybe he wouldn’t there has to be some nuance or how do we move forward as a society?
Anyway sorry for the meandering thoughts, appreciate your work keep going, you’re doing good. Please have more pods like this where we explore the common ground between each other (you know, that weird space where reality is!!)
