I know I've been going on and on about today being my birthday. I'm not really that full of myself. I just need to distract myself from thinking about not hearing from those I've lost over the years. My paternal grandparents would call me every year and sing "Happy Birthday" to me. As of 2022, I no longer get that call.
This morning, my phone rang and the caller ID showed my aunt's name, my dad's little sister.
I obviously knew why she was calling but did not expect to hear "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..." I also did not expect to start sobbing. My aunt apologized for making me cry. I had to tell her they were good tears. They absolutely were.
I relate all of this to say, love your loved ones hard. Make sure they know it. We never know when we will say it for the last time.
