For Matrix, they may want to select a different server (especially if they're on matrix.org); see https://servers.joinmatrix.org . Additionally, on Android, some Matrix clients support UnifiedPush, so one can use that (eg. ntfy) for push notifications, which works better than requiring Element (corp.) to broker the notifications on a central server; the former is my current setup and it works fairly well.
