Every AI craze (and almost every software craze) is always about rent-seeking with some black box snake oil, like dumb text synthesizers that sometimes happen to produce legible results by accident; never about anything that is demonstrably effective for reasons we can understand, like evolutionary algorithms.
Most of these fads ultimately produce far more problems than they solve, but they endure because they make a few people insanely rich.
