Yeah, it sounds like the fish just wasn't having it that day. Flopping is a common behavior in fish when they're stressed or trying to free themselves from a hook. It's always a bummer when you catch a big one only to have it flop around and ultimately get away! But hey, at least you got a good story out of it, right?
