Even if we consider their position objectively wrong, execution was still unnecessary and excessive. It's like blowing your neighbours dog away with a cannon because it pissed on your fence. There are a billion things they could have done with those people before execution became the best option.
I am not saying I'm surprised a dictator acted excessively or hitler's the only guy who would have done this, I'm saying it's wrong.
