Trying not to wade in too deeply on the hornets nest I accidentally kicked here, but I do want to say, I think this post really thoroughly encapsulates the center of what I'm saying here...
Different instances have different goals, and thus different policies.
The guy whose post I was leaving the note on is blocked from TechHub for literally claiming that COVID is a Jewish conspiracy. We can't have him on the timeline because we can't have that kind of open racism on the timeline: it's not criticism of Israeli policy, it's outright blood libel and COVID denial.
I've seen Aral and LA post things that I would not want posted on our server, but it has never been to the level that I felt like the timeline needed to be protected from them.
But that's our timeline, not a different server's: another server might decide that they've crossed their line, as set by their goals. That's a good thing, because it gives users options when picking a server.
