I find the city uninteresting.
I like neither the old part, built in copied European styles and over three centuries of overlapping mechanistic planning, nor the new part, built with little of either...
Neither the developing part, looking towards an undefined and perhaps nonexistent future — nor the stagnant part, captured in pointless self-preservation — nor the decaying part, which has lost even that.
I'm drawn to the unattended places, where nature regains its hold. Not the city's artificial parks, these simulacra of natural order; but ones with dirty pathways, thorny branches, and occasional peace symbols on abandoned construction materials.
Sometimes, the city captures these places. I wonder, to what end? What's the point of these geometric gravel roads and concrete embankments? Can't they see that the riverside is already perfect the way it is, and scarce are the human efforts that can improve it?
And sunsets. I like those as well.
