Don’t be so sure. I was at Salon for many years and it was an obsession of its founder and editor, David Talbot, to find a smart, reasonable conservative columnist. It would sometimes be a staff project for everyone to be on the lookout.
Never found one. He kept defaulting back to David Horowitz — an absolute lunatic but a former lefty and a nice guy in the room — until he’d write or say something so unhinged Talbot would have to fire him again.
