The decision released this week as part of the Hauraki Gulf Fisheries Plan does contain some good news and it’s clear the Government is listening. But while the plan creates some protected areas, it still allows trawling in large areas of the Gulf. So this is not the end of our fight. The movement against destructive bottom trawling is strong and so is people power.
