Are they trying to provoke something from their supporters, by playing him up as triple-Hitler and then saying he'll definitely win unless someone "does something"? Have to figure if the people in charge were willing to risk the fallout from an assassination, they'd just do it themselves, the stochastic terror thing is for terrorizing random normies, where they don't have that kind of manpower.

The boring explanation would be that they're confident in some kind of eleventh-hour bullshit that lets them plausibly turn their projections around, or just gradually adjusting them leftwards at some point to make it seem like he almost had it and Are Democracy is totally real guise.
