Artimis (bridge simulator) had some of that social aspect. Each player has a computer with one station on it.
Weapons, nav, comms, engineering, science and the captain didn't get their own station. They just got to watch the main view screen and shout orders to the other player/stations.
I fondly recall running engineering, getting things just right, and suddenly half the ship goes red.
"What are you doing to my ship?"
