a month late to the day but sickness prevented me from being available for this but tonight I am in the process of moving Poast from our ISP's old datacenter in Idaho to the new one at Liberty Lake in WA. building new servers, testing and racking will take place within the next couple hours at which point I will begin installing Gentoo
simultaneously on both web server and database server and then moving over Poast media and database simultaneously to the two new servers.
I'm hoping for all of this to be complete by end of day Monday (today for anybody in Gods Own timezone) and aiming for about a one hour downtime later today where Poast's database server will be upgraded to PostgreSQL 16 among other things. I can't do the quick 4-5 minute switch like you are used to because upgrading the database will take time as will migrating any additional media uploaded by users during the start of the migration to the end.
I don't foresee any longer than an hour of downtime but expect that it could take up to 2 hours if there are any unforeseen hiccups I have not planned for.
thanks for being here friends

hey friends,
this friday we will be racking hardware for poast in liberty lake, WA and I will spend this weekend moving stuff over from our current servers. nothing changing, just minimalizing downtime to migrate to our ISPs new datacenter (better peering too btw)
doing it this way I suspect there will be very minimal downtime of between 5-10 minutes instead of 2-3 hours required to unrack all of our servers and drive them to the new datacenter and rack them ID->WA
I'll keep you guys updated but I will likely complete the move and switch this hardware out for the new gear early Sunday or early Monday morning (1-2 AM ET). I'll remind you guys later in the week and again on Friday and Saturday while I'm working on it.
because these are custom configs they should suit us for the foreseeable future in terms of capacity and performance. literally the same configs we have now but with redundancy for logging etc
thanks for the support and patience friends
