Speaking of mayflies, I recently read _Fishflies_, written & drawn by Jeff Lemire, and really enjoyed it.
Like his _Essex County_ stories, this is about kids growing up in rural Canada. It's a crime story that ties cycles of domestic violence to the cyclic appearance of the mayflies ("fishflies") that annually swarm the lakeside towns of Essex County.
In it, an abused, stoic young girl finds companionship with someone who needs help, changing several lives.
