I used to teach interview skills to other store managers for a large national retail chain. For the interviewer the process is a mine field of legalities, especially in these times of defective people being a protected class.
The greatest skill I taught was to shut up and listen to see if the applicant will hang himself. A stressed applicant will often babble, telling you things you can't legally ask. Allow silence.
Questions to expect:
1. Name your biggest flaw as an employee.
2. Tell me about a boss that treated you unfairly.
3. Tell me about a fellow employee that you could not get along with.
Have answers prepared that put these traps in a good light. "My biggest flaw is that I can be a perfectionist, sticking with a task untill I know my boss will be happy with the result."
