These cable news "focus groups" are horrible. This morning's "mixed-race" group on MSNBC was dominated by a right-wing Black candidate who thinks he gets to decide who's Black. This is the malign influence of Frank Luntz across TV & The Times.]
I rail about how polls preempt public discourse. "Focus groups" are worse: random, cliched "man-on-street" made to look pseudo-scientific without proper methodology. If you want to run them, hire actual social scientists to do so. Better: Just stop.
