However, that requires all past contributions to sign a copyright assignment which is sometimes infeasible or people just don't want to or have other reasons. And at this point it's probably better to accept that the mode is not built in instead of writing a second mode for the same language/markup. Not sure if that was the story of markdown-mode but it applies to others.",
