It's actually easy. The alternative is the Solid Granite Industry. In the solid industry you need full slabs. In the composite industry, you only need material, no matter the quality. I have met very rich people who have composite countertops. People don't care whether or not it's solid. They care if it looks good and the solid industry is getting eaten alive.

I think this is a step to try and remove the competing industry. Simple as that. IMHO, that is.
