This is it. We've boxed ourselves into being associated with "crypto". If you join as a new users all of the content is bitcoin-related.
I told this to Kieran a long time ago, and this was the reason we introduced interest-based onboarding, but it was never quite functional for several reasons beyond dev's control. Mute lists were supposed to be one way to curb the crypto experience but it was decided to exclude Bitcoin. People hate me for pointing this out, but I don't care. I love bitcoin as much as the next person here, but I can also think outside of my own head and assume different perspectives. It's kind of a tough problem to solve now. We want to make our exiting users happy by giving them what they want and treating them nicely, but at the same time welcoming everyone else.
I think the way to solve it is to have non-bitcoin clients and put in the work to bolster creator features. Creators are the ones who keep people around assuming the newbie is not walled into a previous network where all of their friends spend time. Luckily, I think we can do this because it doesn't take many creators to have a lot of interesting and sticky content. Pareto principle and all.
