Based on appearance, I think it’s dasymutilla. It doesn’t match the description of dasymutilla quadriguttata (missing spots), though it looks similar otherwise. I stepped on one of these little bastards a year or so ago and I swore I’d stepped on a huge shard of glass.
If this is a unique species of wasp local to my area and it doesn’t have a name already, do I get to name it? Is that the rule?
