I suggest reading Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, published in 2020. It was made into Netflix film, Origin, but I recommend the book. A former NYTs reporter, she also wrote The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration. She breaks down the India’s caste system and compares it to the de facto caste system here in the U.S.
