Realpolitik. Not saying it’s right. But it does seem like reality. I think the intuition that the majority might rule roughshod over the minority is what led to protective rights (bill of rights)
Constitutional framers aside, many believe rights come from the majority, not inalienable endowed by God. Thus the emerging reality is unfortunately just as you pointed out: The majority makes the rules and that’s that.
