Quote posting is generally not needed on fedi because all your comments are automatically put on the main timeline.
The reasons why you might quote post is if you wanted to
talk shit about someone like a faggot from another instance
diverge from a hellthread (a very long thread with 10+ people tagged) - it's a way to carry on a conversation without spamming uninterested people's mentions.
