I considered a heat pump, but as I live in a small house with bedrooms in the roof space it was not viable. I would have needed a hot water tank which would have meant taking space from a room and a lot of work.
I ended up replacing my old gas combi boiler with the most efficient modern condenser boiler. Maybe in 15 or 20 years when that boiler needs replacing there will be a viable alternative.
