Many years ago, I was asked to provide a speaker bio for a technical presentation I was scheduled to give, and froze up for a full 24 hours.
Asking me to write about technical subjects: "Haha fuck yeah this is a cakewalk"
Asking me to write about myself: [cosmic horror intensifies]
I didn't follow a traditional path to technology expertise. I was neither a college graduate nor deeply connected to "the scene". I was just some nerd who wrote bad code and learned security the hard way, and then obsessively learned whatever he could about this stuff. There was no street cred in working alone on projects nobody knew or cared about.
So I chose to work on things that nobody else would touch. Things that were little-to-no reward, but demanded a lot of technical depth. (If you know, you know.)
When it came time to write about myself, I couldn't find any words at all.
