It's not hard to understand, they are professionals and there are lots of wrong people out there selling snake oil. But in this case, it wasn't snake-oil salesmen that they tried to silence. Ivermectin had to "not work" to maintain their authority, whether it worked or not.

Which is why you must listen to people other than them.

Statistically it looks like it works a little bit, but most people would probably still get COVID even while taking it.

What really worked well was squirting dilute iodine up your nose. Not a lot of proponents for that, though.
