there is two problems with making rules that prohibit anything
1. criminals don't respect rules
2. governments can get tyrannical... but to quote Mark Twain "but i repeat myself" (a tyrannical government is the most large organised crime syndicate in a territory)
wanting gun violence to go away by taking guns away from innocent people is like closing your eyes to make something disappear, it's something a baby does
those who promote this are criminals because in general, they are part of a tyrannical faction of government, and don't believe people's freedom is good for the whole of society
the whole reason why the little country of USA is more prosperous than the whole of the european union is because of freedom, and the level of poverty is increasing with the enactment of repressive laws that tie the hands of good people who respect laws
