Heck, even the story of Jack and the Bean Stalk: giants who were canibals that were locked away until a giant tree grew to connect the two realms.

Honestly, looking at things with less biased eyes, the supposedly geographical features that really do look like felled trees that would measure ~6km tall...
Giants of insatiable appetite and utterly ginormous proportions are very plausible, IMO.
