I noticed it yesterday: a few red leaves on the sumac, some goldenrod in a field. This is sort of the continental divide of summer. Before this it's the burgeoning that started in spring. But now days are noticeably shorter and some #birds have finished nesting and are gathering and chattering, probably about their favorite southern resorts. Pumpkins, corn stalks, chilly winds—they're not close but they're on their way. #July #summer
