Earlier, I went down to the beach to see the surf.
Normally, the Gulf of Mexico on the Mississippi Coast has no surf, thanks to the barrier islands. It also has practically no upward incline at shoreline, so the water just waltzes in.
Today, we had surf. Cuts were already forming in the man-made beach with water streaming into tidal pools. I stepped to cross one at its narrow neck.
I fell into quicksand.
Swear to God, quicksand.
