Signal already has a bumpy history from what I can remember… Also, no open-source app in f-droid is a no go for me.
I’ve also been using Matrix, and more recently Delta Chat, both are decentralized. Matrix’s cryptography is a bit wonky though, and the server is a pain to maintain.
