I finally picked it back up last year and started rewriting it from the ground up. It had been a drudgery and a slog, and I hated it.\n\nThen, I started looking into sword and sorcery - its structure, its tropes, its style. I wrote the final act of the novella in two days with the prospect in mind of writing that last segment as a S\u0026S story.
