do not start a relationship with anyone who has addictions of any kind, at least until they're off whatever they were on for 5 years or so. addicts/alcoholics/gambling degenerates/etc can - at times - seem normal enough (if they aren't too far gone), and can make you believe they want to change for the better. most of them are unable to change tho. they're 100% full of shit until they actually quit. they're manipulative demons.
