I run public relays because I wanted to learn more about how nostr works and I kind of learned by doing. It also kind of helps to Decentralize the network.
I run personal relays to loosely keep some of my own data. I don't really have a huge desire to store everything that I post, but it's nice to be able to kind of search my own stuff from time to time. Also a personal relay keeps things like my drafts and bookmarks a little bit more private.
