My internet racism is rooted in the understanding that whatever position I start from I’ll be forced to meet in the middle. I’d love to see black criminals fairly punished so good black people don’t have to constantly live around them and raise their kids among them. I grew up in a scout troop with a family of black kids who escaped gang territory and all have made good lives for themselves and their families. Most did a hitch in the military and used their GI bill. I know better than to think they’re all the same. But for justice and fair adjudication to be the end goal of that compromise, I have been forced to pretend to be astoundingly bigoted on the internet.
