Our Spotlight Series honors heroes whose stories face the threat of being erased under the U.S. government's growing efforts to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Since the Medal of Honor was first established in 1861, only 88 Black service members have received the award, out of 3,498 total recipients.
