See, that works well with the firehose approach, because I don't scroll back, so if I see a post labelled "10/10" suddenly pop up in my timeline, and it looks interesting, I'll click on it and then scroll up to the first post and read it from the beginning. I've discovered some great threads that way.

If, on the other hand, I was one who did scroll back, then I might expect my client to not show me 10/10 or even 2/10 until I'd first clicked on 1/10 (i.e. don't show me any replies to a thread until I click on the thread. I think X still works that way, doesn't it?).

Or maybe every time the person makes a new post to the thread, if I haven't seen the thread yet, show me the first post in the thread?

Hmm... That just sounds "algorithmic" to me. ;-P

On Sengi specifically, not sure if you ever used TweetDeck for Twitter/X?

Sengi's basically that for Mastodon and Pleroma.

When Twitter introduced the algorithm and broke the "Following" tab so that it kept resetting the default to "For You" (yeah, they've since fixed it), TweetDeck was what kept me on Twitter. Even after Musk bought it, I still used TweetDeck, it was the only thing that made it bearable. Even after he renamed it to X, I still used TweetDeck... And then, in his infinite wisdom, he decided that he was going to turn TweetDeck into a "blue only" feature...

OK, that's it for me, then. I'm out. It's been fun. Have a nice life. :P

If you like the multi-column thing but want something a bit more polished, I've heard good things about Phanpy. Maybe it will show you the multi-message threads in the way that's most intuitive to you?
