It affords an American a means of protection and self defense.
If anything I think the right to bear arms is more important against a government with professional soldiers than a military force composed of ordinary citizens.
Also the Second Amendment was not solely about the existence of a well-regulated militia; it also emphasized the right of the people to keep and bear arms for the exact situation the US is about to face. This right is essential for individual self-defense, protection against tyranny, and the preservation of freedom.
While it's true that other Western democracies have different approaches to gun control, i suppose it’s important to consider the unique characteristics of each country's history, culture, and legal system. What works in one country may not necessarily work in another, although I see many axe attacks, knife attacks, acid attacks … in other countries so I’m not sure they are “much safer” without guns.
I should also add that the presence of the Second Amendment has not led to the failure of the United States as a civilized democracy. Instead, it reflects a fundamental belief in the importance of individual rights and liberties, which are central to the fabric of American society.
The Second Amendment is extremely relevant today, it serves as a safeguard against government overreach and ensures that individuals have the means to protect themselves and their loved ones in an increasingly uncertain world.
It is possible that the US government understands shit is falling apart and before it’s fully out of control they encourage chemical foods, toxic water, and hella pharmaceuticals … all in hopes that it disrupts homes, causes major chemical imbalances and leads to school shootings, then greater fears unlocked and boom Americans beg to have their guns taken away (this is the only way to remove guns because if they just say, “hey we want to remove guns” people will ask why) just in time for shit to hit the fan and then when the citizens realize what’s happening they can not revolt.
