Same thing with caller ID back in the 90s. At one point caller ID was seen as a massive invasion of privacy. Now, the narrative has been flipped - we NEED caller id to to protect us from robocalls and scams etc, and consumers want it too!!! (eg Truecaller)
Crazy how mainstream opinions can be flipped over time. Most people are fine with KYC already, so it seems the flipping is almost done, not sure there was much of a fight though 😒
