I understand the perspective. For a long time getting an LLM to arrive at the right answer took a lot of coaxing and hand holding. I kept doing it because I'm interested in technology and prefer to collect my own data rather than have people tell me what's real. Claude 3.0 Opus was the first to turn the corner of being obviously able to reason about things. It still got a lot wrong, but it was a level above the other models.
Since then, things have gotten better quickly. What used to spit out "intern" level code can now perform at senior+ developer levels when provided the right context and interfaces. That's a big jump in one year. Keeping a similar pace, by next year they will outperform all humans at writing software.
Will they be human? Of course not. But now is the time to figure out how to integrate these new calculators into our lives
